Mac mini — the lost post stayed lost
February 15th, 2005I had written my first impressions of the Mac mini sometime around the end of January, when it landed on my desk. Unfortunately that ended up being one of the only, if not the only, journal/blog post that I totally deleted by mistake.
I remember I had said that it seemed pretty “awesome” even though the spider-like mess of USB cables coming out of the machine seemed hard to organize and overshadowed the promise of its uber-clean design.
I went on to praise the Mac OS X interface, despite finding absolutely no way to change the font used on the desktop. I don’t have anything against the default font, per se, it just seems to me that Apple is being quite presumptive by forbidding it from being changed.
I then declared that I like Apple’s technology overall, but I refuse to become a “Apple zealot,” since I don’t think any computer company is perfect or above reproach. I wrote that I’m basically platform-agnostic, since I think various operating systems have their strong points, and that I’m quite good at making various types of computers cooexist and communicate with each other on my networks.
Finally, I mentioned folklore.org, Andy Hertzfeld’s site which is a really fun and fascinating look at the development of the original Mac.
That’s my best recollection of the missing Mac post!
